UGANDA : Falcons Face UCU Today At Lugogo
by Sande Bashaija
Kampala
NATIONAL Basketball League champions Mogas Falcons are fired up to defend their title beginning with a season-opening encounter against Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono Canons at Lugogo Indoor Stadium this evening.
Falcons ejected Canons 2-1 in the best of three semifinal play-off series enroute to winning their sixth title last year and skipper Eric Malinga is hoping for a good start this term. "Last season we were a bit shaky at the beginning of the season.
We want a better start this time round," Malinga, who won his maiden Most Valuable (MVP) award last season said yesterday.
Canons looked indispensable last year, winning all their regular season games but surprisingly fell to a hitherto struggling Falcons side.
Falcons have recruited Rogers Sserunyigo and Ronnie Kalule from Rhino and Edwin Kateregga (Sky Jammers). And Malinga is confident the trio can make an immediate impact.
In the other men's game, Isaac Afidra returns to lead Sadolin Power against Kampala International University (KIU). Power have added Ben Komakech (Miracle) and Joseph Ikong (Heaters) to their ranks but have a tough task ahead. KIU have also recruited Michael Karuiki (Heaters) and Mande Juruni (Rhino) and could give Power a stern test.
Women champions KCC Leopards begin their defense against KIU Rangers.
KIU v Power 5 p.m.
KCC v KIU 7 p.m.
Falcons v UCU 8:30 p.m.
TOMORROW
Nabisunsa v Cubs 12:30 p.m.
Bucks v Amazon 3:30 p.m.
Nkumba v Crane 5:30 p.m.
