NKUMBA University Marines were yesterday disqualified from the Makerere Open tournament after they fielded a player, who had turned out for another team.
Marines, despite playing without their want away stars Norman Blick, Carrol Bisereko and Donald Blick, eased through the preliminaries and beat Makerere A 37-27 to make the quarterfinals.
But organizers penalized Nkumba for fielding Ramathan Busulwa, who had registered with Lubiri High School.
The announcement that Nkumba had been thrown out of the tournament caused a scene at the Makerere pool court, with the affected coach Timothy Odeke involved in verbal exchanges with the table officials.
