Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) secretary general Lawrence Cheyo says 13 teams have so far confirmed to compete in this year's National Basketball League (NBL).
It gets underway at the Mkwawani Stadium in Tanga on Wednesday.
He said there is a possibility for two more teams, Bugando of Mwanza and Mbeya's Prisons, to take part in the competition.
"We are very impressed by the response from the competing teams, and possibly the championship would be a success", said Cheyo.
Women teams that have confirmed participation are JKT, Jeshi, Lady Lioness, Polisi, CWT and Magereza.
Men's teams are JKT, Army Basketball Club (ABC), Savio, Oilers , Vijana (City Bulls), Mzinga and Baptist Basketball Club
Recently-crowned RBA Kili league champions and Super Cup winners Vijana stand as clear favourites to excel in the tourney.

Substitute referees are Prosper Mushi and Francis Chalamila.
