KENYA : USIU beat Strathmore in league tie

By Dann O’Werre

United States International University (USIU) beat Strathmore University 65-50 in a top University and Colleges League match at the formers’ courts on Sunday.

This is Strathmore Blades’ second defeat in a row after going down 40-50 to Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University two weeks ago.

Abel Nson lifted USIU with game-high 20 points, while John Zaddock scored 10. For the losers, Ken Maru nailed 15, while Paul Nyakinda tossed in 14.

Kenya Polytechnic pipped Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 50-40.

ANU will blame themselves for the loss as they dominated the proceedings and even took a 24-21 lead at half-time before things went bad in the dying seconds as they allowed Lameck Onyancha to tie the match 47-47 and send the game into over time.

In the five minutes of regulation time, Charles Kituiji sank two foul shots that saw Polytechnic carry the day. Billgram Okutoyi scored 16 points while Onyancha added 10 for Kenya Poly.

For ANU, Peter Mwangi nailed 15 and Edwin Ndungu, who missed an easy shot that would have sent the game to another overtime, shot 11. In other matches, Strathmore women beat KCA 42, while Strathmore Blades were upset 40-50 by KCA.

Kenyatta University Pirates posted a 38-32 win over Kenya Polytechnic. USIU whipped Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) 54-38. Strathmore Blades hit Daystar 40-33.
