KENYA : Shimo, Mombasa High dominate

Shimo la Tewa Secondary boys and Mombasa High School girls easily clinched the Mombasa District secondary schools basketball titles without a struggle as the games concluded at the Shimo grounds on Saturday.
Mombasa High, who are also the reigning national and East and Central Africa champions retained the title for the 16th year in a row without conceding a point after a 123-0 thrashing Mbaraki Girls in a deciding match.

Shimo la Tewa who are also enjoying good form reclaimed the boys basketball title they lost year when they hammered Sheikh Khalifa 116-30 in a one sided final.

In other matches, Mombasa High humiliated Coast Girls high School 153-0 and went ahead to beat Aga Khan High 97-0 to make clear their intentions of the retaining the national championships for the fifth year in a row when the games are held at Mangu High School from April 14.

Top scorer

Mombasa High’s Purity Adhiambo was tournament top scorer while team mate Fatma Mohammed was named most valuable player.

Other players who starred for Mombasa are Mildred Olumasi who was runners-up MVP, Susan Akinyi, Diana Sarah and Evelyn Adhiambo.

Mbaraki Girls will accompany Mombasa High for the provincial championships set for Wundanyi in a fortnight since Mombasa will travel as provincial defending champions.

Shimo La Tewa have Kevin Omindo who was declared top scorer and Stephen Odhiambo who was the tournament Most Valuable player to thank for the clean sweep after the two played pivotal roles in the wins.

In the semi finals, Shimo la Tewa whitewashed Khamis High School 97-35 while Sheikh Khalifa which was the most improved team of the tournament defeated regulars Serani secondary 55-54 in extra time after the teams tied 46-46 in normal time.
