UGANDA : Falcons, Warriors Renew Rivalry
by Lulu Jemimah
Kampala
LAST year's National Basketball League finalists Kyambogo Warriors and Mogas Falcons will be the centre of attraction when the Miracle Invitational tournament gets underway today at YMCA Wandegeya.
Warriors suffered a bitter loss to Falcons in the best five final series, winning the opening two games only to be heartbroken 3-2 in the end.
The two sides are likely to meet in the later stages of the tournament, a chance for Warriors to avenge the painful loss. The event, dubbed 'MBC Challenger Series' has attracted several top teams including Sadolin Power, Knight Riders, Crane High and hosts Miracle.
Falcons, which entered history books for winning a sixth league championship, come into the tournament as defending champions and will be seeking to become only the first team to retain the trophy.
The women's category has attracted A-1 Challenge, Amazon Rhino, Victoria Lakers and Crane High but defending champions KCC Leopards are missing out.
The three-day event has received a sponsorship boost from Rwenzori Beverages.
"This is the second time we are supporting this event and we hope to maintain the relationship," Rwenzori sales and marketing manager Alam Mahboob said as he handed over 30 cartons of water to Miracle's Chris Kyebambe.
