A Senator, Usman Umar has condemned the neglect suffered by basketball despite the abundant talents in the country. He therefore urged stakeholders to invest in the development of the game.

Umar stated this at the inauguration of Premier Basketball Foundation (PBF), advocated support from both private and corporate organisations to assist basketball at the grassroots level.
He said: "Nigerians have started arriving when it comes to basketball sports, so itís an innovation for us to support government when it concerns basketball at grassroots level,"
He described the foundation as an innovation in the area of funding basketball in the country.

Responding, Mr Tijani Umar, president of PBF, said that the foundation would contribute to the growth and development of grassroots basketball through a private and effective avenue.
'This foundation will be an umbrella that will nurture kids in primary and secondary schools through our sustainable program, "so that a reservoir of talents can be created for the benefit of our national and international basketball engagements," he added. Tijani said the foundation would also provide a pedestal for young players to make a success of both academic and athletic pursuits.
