UGANDA : Warriors One Game Away from Crow

By Charles Mutebi

KYAMBOGO Warriors are one game away from winning the basketball league crown after defeating Mogas Falcons yesterday. Warriors spurred by Ronnie Kasewu who scored 16 points, outwitted Falcons 65-57 to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series at Lugogo.
Kasewu's efforts were complimented by Steven Okias who had 15 points and Brian Gumisiriza at 14.
The result further undermined Falcons' title ambitions as they must now do the unthinkable and win the next three games.
Warriors are looking to step up gear, according to their inspirational coach Ambrose Tashobya.
"You do not give a chance to these guys because they can easily turn it around," Tashobya explained.
Warriors started the match with typical gusto, ending the first quarter 22 - 13 but their opponents levelled it 37-all by halftime.
However, the Warriors characteristically built another lead to finish the third quarter at 55 - 47 and they never looked back.
All the previous questions about Warriors' mental strength have been shut at the door of their wholeness.
It is their depth in offensive quality that is well documented but their defence, for instance, restricted Uganda's best post player to six points on the night.

Tashobya was not in similar doubt though.
"Today we won the game with our defence," Tashobya observed.

Falcons have one day to find a way of crawling back into the race.

Failure to do so would hand Warriors their second crown after the Abraham Lincoln success in 2006, their only other trophy.

Meanwhile, hard battling Liz Kizza capped a definitive defensive display with a team-high 15 points to help A1 Challenge level the women's final against the KCC Leopards 1 - 1.
