UGANDA : Warriors on the brink
By Charles Mutebi
WILL the Kyambogo Warriors recover from their first play-off loss against the Mogas Falcons? After Sunday’s defeat, Game 4 today might have given them little time to recover, but, glory awaits if they stop the follow on from a rejuvenated Falcons.
The in-form Warriors had won four straight games going into Game 3 and were slated to land the ultimate prize with a fifth, but the Falcons had designs of their own, snatching a 81–78 win.
Record champions Falcons had however already shown in the semifinals that they can come back from the deepest lows. They will be hoping the win that left them trailing 2–1 in the best of five series, caused lasting tremors in their rival’s camp which they will exploit to complete the comeback.
Even then, Sunday’s victory may be a small interruption in their rival’s undeniable championship destiny.
The Warriors possess the larger offensive arsenal and their defeat might trigger a reaction of nuclear proportions led by Ronnie Kasewu and Steven Okias.
The Warriors will, however, have to clean their board better if Henry Malinga is to be stopped from employing his rebounding handiness that helped him score a game-high 21 points in Sunday’s loss.
The KCC Leopards and Crane could also seal it today.
