TANZANIA : Dar start basketball title defence well

TAIFA Cup Basketball Champions Dar es Salaam Region yesterday started well their title defence after defeating Dodoma 78-27.
Dar es Salaam looked strong from kick off of the official opening tie and enjoyed a 46-11 lead at the breather.
The hosts increased pressure on Dodoma boys in the second half and registered 32 points more against 16 by the visitors.
In other matches played earlier in the day, Arusha scored last minute points to register a slim 55-54 win over Tanga Region in one of the most entertaining games of the opening day.
Unguja managed 55 points against 53 by Shinyanga Region in a hard fought encounter while Coast Region triumphed 39-23 over Mara.
Tabora were strong enough to beat their neighbours, Mwanza Region, 75-53.
The Deputy Minister For Information, Culture and Sports, Joel Bendera, graced the opening of the Barrick Gold Basketball Cup, calling for more regions to participate in the tournament. Only 14 out of 26 regions are participating in this year’s tournament.
