Ebun Comets of Lagos won three straight games by beating the Union Bank team 74-64 late Tuesday to win the abridged basketball Premier League.

The triumph of the Comets, however, is for the Atlantic Conference as the winner of the Savannah battle was expected to emerge last night after six days of action at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The success has given the Comets the first Nigerian ticket to the continent this season with the other to be taken by the winner from the Kaduna centre. The former Nigerian champions will be in Cotonou, Benin Republic from the 31st of this month where the play off for African Zone Three will hold. The two top teams from that centre will proceed to Luanda, Angola where the African finals will hold by the end of next month.

In Lagos, the Comets got over Union Bank, the Customs and Dodan Warriors. Lagos Islanders and Delta Force failed to show up. The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) quickly put together a mini league in lieu of a full league season to enable the country select and present teams for the African Champions League.
