KENYA : KPA Seek First Win in Maputo

Winless Kenya Ports Authority women basketball face ISPU of Mozambique today looking for their first win in the third match of the 13th edition of the Africa Club championships in Mozambique.

The dockers, who have lost two straight matches will be seeking to redeem their already dented image at the championships which they have featured three years in a row now.

They wind up their preliminary rounds with a match against Lupopo of DR Congo tomorrow.

Against First Bank in their second match Kenya Ports Authority which they lost 53-37, the dockers, who had lost the opening game 56-37 to defending champions Primero Agosto of Angola, were no match for the Nigerians who stepped up the tempo of the game to win the second quarter 14-01 for a 26-10 half time lead.

KPA, who had Agnes Anyango and captain Everlyne Akoth to thank for playing their hearts out, took the third quarter 16-13 but went down 11-14 in the fourth and final quarter.Anyango whose game has improved of late led the scorecard with 18 points while Akoth had eight.

Against Primero Agosto in the first match, KPA trailed 7-10 in the first quarter and completely lost out in the second quarter which the Angolans dominated 20-08 for a 30-15 half time lead.

In other matches, Deportivo from Mozambique beat Dolphins of Nigeria 68-55, ISPU from Mozambique shocked former champions First Bank from Nigeria 67-48 while Ferroviaro from Mozambique beat ABC 67-46.
