Despite a spirited fight in her Group, classification matches is all Rwanda is left to play for at the 2007 Afro basketball competitions that are being held in Angola.

Rwanda put up a tough fight against all her opponents but lack of experience in the tournament coupled with lack of that extra edge to turn good shows into wins frustrated the East Africans who were only making their premier appearance.

After falling to reigning champions Angola 66-109 in the first game of the competition, the debutants suffered 64-78 and 62-71 defeats against Morocco and Cape Verde to count off any chances of progressing into the quarter-finals.

In Group A, Angola and Cape Verde qualified for the quarters. Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria and Central African Republic are the other countries through to the quarters.

Rwanda opened their classification matches account with a tie against D.R Congo yesterday but results couldn’t be confirmed by press time.

Other classification games that were going on included; Morocco taking on Liberia, South Africa playing Senegal and Mali entertaining Mozambique.

Meanwhile, in the quarter-finals, four games were on cards yesterday.

Angola was scheduled to clash with Central African Republic, Cameroon against Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria against Cape Verde while 9th All Africa games medallists Egypt were also tussling it out with Tunisia.
