LIBERIA : Basketball Team May Head Home Soon
By Michael Gebeh
The national basketball team of Liberia may return to the country sooner than expected, as it continues to find it difficult securing any win in Angola. The team yesterday morning lost to Morocco in her first play off match in the City of Bengula.
The team had earlier lost all three matches played in the Group C fixture of the tournament. The country first went down to Nigeria and then met the same fate when she encountered the DR Congo; before losing to the Central African Republic on Sunday evening during the group stage.
Because of the country's poor showing in Group C, she was placed to participate in the placement category of the tournament. The placement category is for those teams who fail to qualify for the quarterfinals stage of the competition.
Liberia lost to Morocco 54-93. Mark Smith scored the highest points in the entire match. He scored 25 points.
Liberia will play her second placement match today August 22 and the third will be on Wednesday.
