UGANDA Christian University (UCU) Mukono Canons head coach Jason Mehl believes his team is in the best position to qualify for the National Basketball League play-offs but doesn't rule out the possibility of faltering along the way. Top four teams make the play-offs.

“It's possible we can go unbeaten but it all depends on how we approach each single game. We might concentrate on beating big teams but end up losing to small ones,” Mehl reckons.

Canons won nine straight games, but Mehl's suggestions are testimony to what happened in the first round.
Kampala International University (KIU) beat record champions Falcons but fell to a lesser fancied Charging Rhino. It was the same story with Power who brought down some fellow giants but got a shock against Youth Heaters. Such is the scenario Mehl is keen to avoid.
“Marines, Power, Falcons and Warriors are all strong teams and it would be good beating them in second round. It makes little sense however, beating such big teams and you lose to Knight Riders or any other strugglers,” he said.

The second round begins tomorrow at Lugogo and Mehl is aware of the tough challenge ahead. “Every team wants to prove a point against UCU. That's why we must stay focused to keep our clean sheet,” he says.
