Kampala City Council (KCC) Leopards team manager Joy Olinga believes it’s their best chance to win a National Basketball League championship after two seasons of disappointment.
Formed in 2005, KCC Leopards finished 5th but with massive recruitment came second to Lady Bucks last year. Despite bagging silver, last year’s performance was however disappointing considering the fact that Leopards had finished the regular season unbeaten.
“The only way to forget last year is by winning the 2007 championship. And I think the players and coaches have changed their attitude and badly need the championship,” Olinga told Daily Monitor on Thursday ahead of their game against Amazon Rhino later today. Leopards take on Amazon at YMCA Wandegeya (4pm) before wrapping up their first round next weekend against Victoria Lakers. They will however be without stars Agatha Baliddawa and Becky Akullo, both nursing injuries.
Meanwhile, struggling giants Charging Rhino will be back in action against wounded Kampala International University (KIU) in the last game of the day.
The 1997 champions have only managed one win from seven games and must pray for a miracle against KIU, who on Wednesday suffered a tear-jerking 59-60 loss to UCU Cannons.
