RWANDA : Rwanda-Congo build-up on
The Rwanda Basketball Federation, Ferwaba has scheduled an international friendly with DR Congo as part of the two team’s preparations for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations. The game is scheduled for June 24 at Amahoro stadium indoor courts, two weeks before the Rwandan team travels for the Can event in the Angolan capital Luanda.
News of the friendly was confirmed by Ferwaba Secretary General Jean Lucien Mugabo who also said that DR Congo was chosen because of its status as the regional powerhouse.
He said, “We decided to have this friendly with DR Congo because is the best side compared to other countries in the region, so we hope our team can learn much from them.”
While Rwanda qualified for this year event as first runners up in their zone [five], DR Congo qualified as champions of zone four.
“We have made a number of invitations to different countries and we are looking forward to playing more build-ups after the game with DRC in order to give the players enough competition exposure before the Angola event,” he added.
The biannual event, the 24th edition of starts on August 15 until 23 and will be staged in the country’s five main cities of Luanda, Huambo, Benguela, Cabinda and Lubango.
A total of 16 countries will take part in the event where Rwanda, making her debut has been pooled in the same group as Morocco, Cape Verde and the hosts Angola.
