| The national basketball men’s team is set to play a series of international build-up matches ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations championships in the Angolan capital Luanda. Federation of Rwanda Basketball Association [Ferwaba] Secretary General Jean Lucien Mugabo said that the federation has lined up games with teams within and beyond the region.|
“The team will have a series of build-ups in Tunisia and Egypt before the Angola event,” Mugabo said adding that it was just a matter of time before the team embarked on these build-ups.
He noted that, “The reason for these trips is to help the team get acquitted to the better court facilities similar to those in Angola, where the event is to be staged.”
Though the dates for the team’s trip to Tunisia are yet to be confirmed, the tour of Egypt has been scheduled for July 5-10.
Ahead of the Can championships, Rwanda believes that it has a genuine chance to progress past the pool stages despite being seeded alongside Angola, the continents’ power house and event hosts.
“Angola could be too much for us but we fancy ourselves against Morocco and Cape Verde. If the team prepares well, it will get positive results out of these two games,” Mugabo confidently acknowledged.
Since the team’s head new coach, Kavedzija Vaceslave arrived in the country last Wednesday; the 18-man team has upped its training to three sessions a day.
