KENYA : Christian Centre humble marauding Pirates at Nyayo
By Dann O’were International Christian Centre (ICC) beat Kenyatta University Pirates in a basketball Premier League match at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium. ICC took a 26-20 margin lead in the first quarter before Pirates charged back to take the second quarter, 16-13. After the break, both sides were level 10-10 and 21-21 in the third and last quarters. Nelson Njau and Vit Khote each managed 18 points for ICC, who needed a shot by Emanuel Ekai to break a 60-60 tie. Phil Dinga scored Pirates’ 30 including 17 of 21 in the last quarter while Griffin Ligare made 11. In the Sasanet Nairobi basketball league match played at the same venue, former national champions, Posta, whipped Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) 83-31. Ben Oluoch’s 29 points included a stunning basket that saw him spin on a 360-degree turn. Anthony Abondo scored 12 and Jeff Muthui 10 for the unbeaten Posta. Victor Okello made KCA’s 10. In other matches, Posta blanked Old Pirates 69-42. Oluoch led the way with 16 points while Abondo hit 15 for Posta. Tony Ochieng had 19 for the losers. KCA won 43-39 over Kenya Polytechnic. Okello led the way for KCA with 15 points while Timothy Adedi made 14 for Poly. Might Hawks succumbed 41-45 to Team Jam who were led by Kevin Otieno 20 points while Kevin Onesmus made 18 for Hawks. Predators’ Winnie Kanani and Emily Ongoro each scored 16 points and ex-international, Everlyn Kedogo, chipped in with 14 as Predators crushed Kenya Polytechnic 83-12. Kenyatta University’s Oryx inspirational guard Lucy Wanjiku led her team to a 47-40 win over Strathmore University who had 16 from Lucy Apondi.
