KENYA : Usiu shock KCB Lions in Premier League tie

By Dann O’were

United States International University (Usiu) shocked Kenya Commercial Bank Lions 57-52 in a tough Premier League tie at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.

Lions, who have lost one match to Co-op, had little to offer as Dan Okwirri, Papilon Odhiambo and Djibril Oudraogou had other ideas.

The students led 29-28 at half time, but trailed 42-45 as the start of the last quarter. When international Okwirri started to exert pressure, Lions faltered as Oudraogou nailed 20 points while Okwirri shot 14.

For a bewildered Lions side that missed coach Francis Ngunjiri, Tobias Onyango made 16 and ex-USIU player Yoni Wanambiro added 12.

Terrorists 77

Strathmore 54

Brothers Eugene and Rodney Genga were all fire guiding University of Nairobi Terrorists to a humiliating 77-54 of Strathmore University.

International Eugene led the way with career high 26 points while the younger sibling Rodney provided 17 and Brain Busu 13. The losers had 18 from Paul Nyakinda.

Jkuat 61

Lomboritz 55

Mike Opinya scored 25 points to lead Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) to a 61-55 win over Lomboritz who had Mike Opel sinking 13.

In the Sasanet Nairobi Basketball Association league matches at Railways Club, Team Jam beat Old Pirates 56-45 behind Billy Ongute’s 12 points. Tony Ochieng shot 13 for Old Pirates.

Kenya College of Accountancy posted their first win after beating Mighty Hawks 49-43 while Victor Okello made 16 points as did the losers’ John Ndaka.
