KENYA : KCB Face Tigers in Premier League Tie
By Caxton Apollo
Nairobi
Kenya Commercial Bank Lions will take on USIU Tigers in one of the 10 basketball Premier League matches at Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium this weekend.
Tigers, who beat University of Nairobi's Terrorists 53-50 last weekend, will be meeting a side that poached their top players, shooting guard Abel Nson and forward Yoni Wanambiro this season.
The top match is scheduled for tomorrow at 4pm. Lions went down fighting 73-66 to Co-op Bank in their season opener but recovered to rock International Christian Centre 98-74. Coach Francis Ngunjiri will no doubt rely on guard Paul Oloo, Ikapian Juma and David Otiso to harvest Maximum points.
Tigers felt the loss of Wanambiro and Nson, leaving only veteran Dan Okwiri as their dependable star. The students will have Pappillion Odhiambo and Kennedy Lodiong in their battle to face the experienced KCB Lions, also are the East and Central Africa champions.
Today, Co-op Bank have an easy assignment against newcomers Strathmore University in a tie the bankers' coach Carey Oketch should not have any problems to win. Co-op Bank beat Terrorists 71-62 in their last match and Lewis Muya, Wycliffe Ochieng and Musa Odari are expected to be the main actors.
Strathmore, who are playing in the Premier League for the first time, pipped Java Warriors 57-56 and collecting two points from Co-op Bank are a hard nut to crack.
In top women's match, Sprite Storms, led by celebrated Anjella Luchivya and Hilda Luvandwa, have a date with coach John Chasimba's Yana. Ruth Wasike, Carol Achieng and Judith Akoth led Yana in a 79-61 win.
