KENYA : Co-op thrash Strathmore at Nyayo gym
By Dann O’were Co-operative Bank of Kenya thrashed Strathmore University 90-47 in a basketball Premier League tie at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium. The former four-time national champions were in total control of this one-sided match, taking a 26-7 second-quarter advantage en route to a comfortable 45-21 half time lead. Both sides were locked 16-16 in the third quarter before the bankers bolted away 29-10 in the fourth quarter. Rogers Mutahi led a balanced Co-op attack with 11 points. Cliff Ochieng, George Kamau, Musa Odari and Johnson Karonje each nailed 10. Strathmore had 10 each from Paul Nyakinda and Ben Ogolla. Storms......65 Yana.......55 Sprite Storms nailed Yana Milele 65-55 in an exciting women’s game. The match had a total of 17 three pointers with Yana connecting nine and storms eight. Hilda Luvandwa shot 23 points, Angela Luchivya 16 and Caroline Ouma 14. For Yana, Caroline Achieng posted 17 including five three pointers while Judith Akoth contributed 19. In the lower division, Mennonites had 17 points from Joshua Vuva as they nipped Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 66-57. Africa Nazarene University (ANU) compounded Langata Crusaders’ miseries with a 62-54 win as Edwin Ochieng scored 11 points. Langata’s Steve Okwako scored 16.
