UGANDA : Hoops tourney on at YMCA

THOUGH no foreign team has jetted in for the third edition of the Hoops of Hopes charity basketball tournament that gets underway today at YMCA Wandegeya, thrilling action is expected from local giants.

According to organiser Moses Ochan over 15 local teams had by yesterday confirmed participation and are raring to go.
"This event is aimed at raising aid for the internally displaced people in Pader district. Apart from that, fans should expect the best action, with some games going till late in the night," Ochan told Daily Monitor yesterday.
Sadolin Power and Makerere Sparks lead the way in the men and women's categories respectively. Nkumba Marines, Knight Riders, Livingstone, Blue Jackets, A-1 Challenge, Lady Bucks are the other registered teams.
Organisers are targeting to raise materials including clothes, soap, sugar and soap to be given out to the needy in Pader and over 200 orphans living in Kakira-Jinja.
Meanwhile this year's school’s all star basketball showpiece also gets underway at Seeta High School, Mukono.
Defending champions (boys and girls) Kabojja SS, Lubiri High School, Crane High, Nabisunsa, Makerere College and East High School have all entered teams to tussle it out with the hosts.
