RWANDA : APR in hunt for pivotal player

Ahead of what is expected to be a hectic year for the APR basketball club, the club is desperately looking for a three-man position player. According to the club coach Cliff Owuor, APR has had a loop-hole in this position for the past two seasons that he has been in charge of the club. “Rwanda lacks a complete three-man. I have used Karim Nkusi in this position but even then, he needs back up which we don’t have yet. I ‘m looking around for a player I can groom to effectively fill up this loop-hole,” Owuor said.
He further hinted that if he failed to land a player in the country, he would go beyond the country’s borders.
According to the army-side’s season’s schedule, they need a team with great depth. “We expect to compete in many tournaments this year and to perform effectively and consistently at this level, you need a team with great depth,” the Kenyan tactician who turned 34 on Saturday told Times Sport.
In addition to the league title quest, Owuor has insisted that APR is also focused on regional success. He said that in addition to the league title, APR was eyeing more recognized competitions like the East and Central Club Championships set for April, Zone V Club Championship scheduled for June as well as the Falcons regional tournament slated for July in Kampala.
APR who have developed into a formidable basketball power since Owuor ’s arrival at the club start this year’s trophy chase next Saturday during the inaugural Kigali Challenge Cup.
