KENYA : NSSSA Quarters | Upper Hill Shock Aquinas to Sail into Semis
Upper Hill School shocked Nairobi Province defending champions Aquinas High School 32-30 to sail through to the semi finals of the Nairobi province Secondary Schools Basketball Championships. Aquinas was off to a shaky start, leading 09-08 after the first quarter. Upper Hill sprung back through man-of-the-match Ruan Misino to outscore the champions 13-02 in the second quarter, to lead 21-11 at the break. Aquinas struggled to keep up with Upper Hill's momentum in the second half, as they recovered to score 9-points against Upper Hill's 5-points putting the scores at 20-26 at the end of the third quarter. Aquinas maintained their offensive attack on Upper Hill, who seemed troubled by their opponent's onslaught, but managed to cling on to a narrow but sweet 32-30 win. Misino bagged 19 points for Upper Hill, while Evans Ochieng had 11 for Aquinas.
In the other quarter finals games, Nairobi Jaffery's Academy whipped Strathmore School 98-31 in a one-side encounter. Joseph Odhiambo shot 24 points with David Sinda adding 14 for Jaffery's. Kevin Ndeti replied for Strathmore with 12 points.
St Austins Academy got an easy way into the semis after they were awarded a 20-00 walkover win after Hillcrest failed to show up.
Starehe Boys edged out Kenya Muslims School out of the competition with a 57-37 win. Josiah Omwenga shot 18 points for Satrehe, as Adan Abdulahi managed 10 for Kenya Muslims.
In the girl's quarters, Pangani Girls hit Kenya High School 66-39 to book a semi finals spot. Pangani's Gertrude Atieno shot a game high 20 points with team-mate Maria Awori adding 09, while Roselyn Makena led Kenya High with 16 points.
Buru Buru Girls and St Georges Secondary Schools were awarded walkovers after their opponents Kamukunji Girls High School and Kianda School failed to show up.
The last game saw Moi Girls School Nairobi book a semis spot after a 23 -07 win over St Austins Academy.
