UGANDA : Basketball Body in Cash Trouble

THE newly elected Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (Fuba) executive has inherited debts amounting to US$2100 ( Shs4m). The debts came as a result of failure to pay affiliation fees to the Federation of International Basketball Associations (Fiba).
Tom Ocamringa, the Fuba General Secretary revealed to Daily Monitor yesterday that the federation has never paid affiliation fees since 2001.
"Every year we are supposed to pay $100 but the past two regimes never honoured their obligations. The breakdown of communication between Fuba and Fiba has further compounded the issue but we are going to rectify it," he said.
Last year Fuba got its debts dating from early '80s to 2000 waived after the then federation vice president Peninah Kabenge pleaded with Fiba officials at the World Congress in Tokyo, Japan.
And Ocamringa noted: "There is no chance that Fiba will waive the debts again. We just have to make sure we solicit funds from as many places as posible and pay."
