TANZANIA : National basketball league refs named
TANZANIA Basketball Federation (TBF) has announced ten names of referees, who will oversee the forthcoming National Basketball League (NBL) to be held in Dodoma from February 26 to March 4.
TBF Secretary-General, Lawrence Cheyo, named the officials as Gosbert Boniface, George Kitundu, Aidan Mbaga, Prosper Mushi, George Kashmir, Alfred Ngalaliji, Francis Chalamila, Prosper Mushi, Magoiga Samson, Haleluya Kavalambi and Golita.
The tournament will involve 15 teams from six regions, which have confirmed taking part in the league to see three top placed teams booking tickets for the Union Championship.
Cheyo acknowledged efforts done by stakeholders to support the weeklong event, whose curtain- raiser pits defending champions JKT and host Dodoma Spurs.
"TBF would like to thank all stakeholders for their support especially Mega System Company, which has donated to us mineral water and Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) for pledging to meet referees and playing ground costs," said Cheyo.
Clubs, to take part in the event in men's discipline, are reigning champions JKT, Savio, Oilers from Dar es Salaam, Flames and Iyunga Crescent (Mbeya), Young Warriors and Mzinga (Morogoro), Bugando Heats (Mwanza), Soweto Kings (Arusha) and the hosts clubs are Dodoma Spurs and Chuo cha
Mipango.
The ladies' category has Mapinduzi Stars, Cargo Ladies, JKT and Lady Lion from Dar es Salaam.
