EAST AND CENTARL AFRICA CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP

Rwanda has been asked to be on standby to host the East and Central Africa club championships incase Burundi would not be ready.
Zone Five president Morris Aluanga made the request during his closing address after the end of the All Africa Games qualifiers in Kigali. He said logistics like the 24 second shot clock, which Burundi do not have, might hinder them hosting the championships. "You might host us again in August." Aluanga said to a delirious crowd that included the country's minister for Health who was the chief guest.
The tournament was pushed from April to August at the request of host organisers Federation Basketball du Burundi.
Vice President Alexis Songomwa said that the long rains in April will not make it possible to have the show during that time and as a result it has been decided to be moved to August.
"We do not have an indoor stadium like they do in other parts of the region, and with the rains expected to fall in April, it will be impossible to hold the event," said Songomwa. He said that despite Burundi being the host it wouldn't enter four teams for the event, but will only register two namely Urunani for men and Berco Stars in the women category.

Rwanda officials also disclosed their teams for the event as national men champions APR Lions, coached by Kenyan Cliff Owuor, and University of Rwanda women side.

Kenya will take four teams in KCB Lions and Kenya Ports Authority who will be defending their titles and national champions Ulinzi Warriors and Telkom Kenya.
