KENYA : MOMBASA HIGH, LAISER RETAIN REGIONAL TITLES


Mombasa High School retained the girl’s basketball title at the East Africa Secondary school games after defeating Kibuli High School from Uganda 69-35. USA-bound six foot forward- Beatrice Awino was unstoppable, bagging 38 points for the winners, in a game they dominated from tip-off to the buzzer, with Awino dominating both offensive and defensive rebounds as well. Brenda Wasuda (R) added 18 points for Mombasa High as Hatima Karima and Nakabugo Assumta replied for the Ugandans with 17 and 11 points respectively. Mombasa High finished the games unbeaten after edging out fellow Kenyans- Tigoi girls High School 80-34 in the semis. Tigoi had defeated Uganda’s Nabisunsa 63-53 before fighting from 6-points down to upset Don Bosco from Burundi 52-51 to finish third. The Games were played at the Dar es Salaam University basketball courts. Beatrice Awino was later named the Most Valuable Player-MVP.
In the boy’s category, defending champions Laiser Hill Academy of Kenya beat Tanzania's Makongo 59-41 in the boys finals to retain the regional cup. they had earlier defeated Uganda’s Kaboja 52-28, before edging out fellow Kenyans Aquinas High School 68-56 in the semis. Aquinas had whipped Tanzania’s Jitegemee 53-24 in an earlier game. Pascal Issa from Makongo MVP
