UGANDA : Okello Wins 2006 MVP Accolade

BONIFACE Okello was named the 2006 Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the MTN Basketball League trophy presentation ceremony at Lugogo on Sunday.

Okello had a dominant season, leading Nkumba-Marines with 15 points and five stealson average, on their way to retaining the championship.
He (nine votes) overcame stiff competition from teammates Salim Ali (seven) and former MVP Norman Blick (with five) who were also vying for the prestigious accolade.
Marines not only won a trophy and 22 gold medals, but were also awarded a sh1.5m cash prize and 18 mobile phones from the sponsors, MTN.
Lady Bucks guard Flavia Oketcho was the recipient of the 2006 women's MVP accolade after leading her team to their seventh league title. The team also got a sh1.5m cash prize, 18 phones and 22 gold medals from MTN.
Stephen Okias (Warriors) and Frances Nabulobi (Bucks) defended the individual top scoring awards they won last year. They averaged 17 points per game to finish with an accumulated 417 points and 406 points respectively during the 2006 season.
Falcons and A-1 Challenge who anchored the best defenses and conceded the least points in the men and women's leagues respectively, were named the 2006 defensive teams of the year.

Knight Riders and KIU Rangers who finished second and fourth in the Yello Go and women's leagues respectively, were named the recipients of the 2006 Most Improved Team awards while Kabojja SS and MUK-Cubs finished as Most Disciplined teams.
