SEYCHELLES : Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup - Mont Fleuri hold on for game one semifinal win

WITH veteran Williana Dubois back in their line-up after they badly missed her in their 34-85 drubbing by Anse Etoile Stars in the Women’s Top-of-the-table final, Mont Fleuri blew a 12-point lead but held on to take game one of their best-of-three semifinal series last Friday at Victoria Gymnasium.
After losing the first quarter 15-21, Mont Fleuri won the second and third quarters 19-6 and 18-13 to go into the fourth and final 10-minute spell with a 12-point lead. With time running out and with Bel Air piling on the pressure, it looked as if Mont Fleuri would lose game one, but they held on after scoring 11 points – half of coach Robin Boniface’s team’s total in the decisive quarter. The final score was 63-62.
Mont Fleuri had three players – Bernadette Songor (15), Dubois (14 including two 3-pointers) and Tracey Moustache (14) – scoring in doubles, while skipper Thyra Boniface had the hot hands for Bel Air with a game-high 19 points.
She was helped in offence by Lindy Aglaé with 14 points and Lina Lestrange with 10 points.
Last year’s losing finalists Mont Fleuri are just one game away from reaching the final, while Bel Air need to double their efforts and play some tough basketball to stave off elimination.

The second match is on Thursday, while HotShots, who experienced a hard time before beating Cadettes 50-41 in the first match of the other semifinal series, can make the final today if they get a second win.
