NIGERIA : African Champions Cup Begins

The stage is now set for this year's Africa Champion of Champions Basketball Championship which dunks off today inside the Indoor Hall of the national stadium Lagos.
The tournament local organizing committee (LOC) Chairman, Colonel Sam Ahmedu (rtd), confirmed that all logistics have been put in place to ensure a successful host of the championship.

Ahmedu, who is also the coordinator of Dodan Warriors Basketball Club, one of Nigeria's representative in the competition assured that the tournament will be a memorable one in the history of basketball competitions in Africa
"Everything is set. We are only waiting for the opening day. The teams have arrived and the venue is in top shape", said Ahmedu.Warriors are the host team of the nine-day competition among the best basketball -playing clubs in Africa, with Nigeria champions Plateau Peaks also taking part after picking their ticket at a qualifying tournament in Abidjan.

Other participating teams are Cup holders ABC of Cote d'Ivoire, Africa Sports and ZENITH also of Cote d'Ivoire, Primero dos Agosto and Petro Atletico both of Angola, Inter Clube of DR Congo, Onatra of Congo Brazzaville and BACK of Guinea, while ESPN of South Africa and Commercial Bank of Kenya were handed wild card entries.
Meanwhile, a pre-match meeting of the LOC and the twelve participating teams will hold today at the Indoor sports Hall, National Stadium, Lagos.
