MTN Basketball League MVP Norman Blick is planning to start a basketball academy in a bid to persuade more youngsters to get involved in the game.
Blick, also the 2005 Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) basketball player of the year after leading Nkumba Marines to their first ever league title last year told Daily Monitor that the academy would have two major centers both in Kampala and Jinja and would later open up other branches all over the country.
"My career to date has been worthwhile and I would like to see many youngsters play better ball than I have done hence the reason for me to open up an academy," said Norman.
The academy will be called 'The Blicks Basketball Academy' and will be run along with his brother and teammate Donald Blick and former national star and coach Tom Ocamringa.
He is eyeing corporate sponsorship as well as backing from Qatar club - Al Rayyan and personal friend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - a former NBA MVP, who is willing to visit and financially boost the development of the project when it gets started.
