SEYCHELLES : Mont Fleuri, Juniors join Stars and Jazz in finals
THE women’s final of the Top-of-the-table tournament between Mont Fleuri and Anse Etoile Stars will be a repeat of the Curtain-raiser final won by the latter.
And two second division sides will take centre-stage on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Palais des Sports when they will give the momentum to an afternoon of three finals. The Men’s division 1B/2 competition finalists are second division winners Juniors and runners-up LMS Jazz.
Mont Fleuri could count themselves lucky to be in the final as they won by the slightest of margins – 36-35 – against HotShots in the second women’s semifinal on Sunday at Victoria Gymnasium.
This will be Mont Fleuri’s second final appearance this year after meeting the same Stars in the Curtain-raiser final which they lost 45-51.
The Mont Fleurians beat defending champs Bel Air 60-45 in their group match and in the semifinal, they met Anse Boileau-based HotShots who had, in their first match, lost 52-71 to the Stars who, in turn, floored the Bel Airians 57-50 in Saturday’s first semifinal.
Sunday’s other semifinal match-up was an encounter between past greats of the game here who are now playing for Ex-Champs and the future stars of the Juniors team coached by one of Seychelles best centres of all-time Lenny ‘Bad’ Aglaé.
It was the young legs of Juniors who triumphed 45-36 over the weary legs of the old-timers, meaning that Saturday’s final will be an all-second division affair.
It must be noted that both finalists lost their group matches but made the difference in the semifinals.
Men’s division two winners Juniors fell 46-51 to Men’s division IB champions Pointe Larue Falcons who were then trounced 58-43 by Men’s division two runners-up LMS Jazz in the semifinal. Before winning against favourites Pointe Larue Falcons, LMS Jazz had lost 76-81 to Men’s division 1B runners-up Ex-Champs in their group match.
