SEYCHELES : Baya reach final

BAYA were the first team to qualify for the final of the Men’s division 1A Top-of-the-table tournament after overcoming SMB Razorbacks 74-60 in the first semifinal played on Monday at Victoria Gymnasium. SMB Razorbacks started the game in a more aggressive manner and at the end of the first quarter they led a disorganised Baya 28-14. At this point, it looked as if Baya were to suffer one of the most humiliating defeats of the season.

But in the second quarter, the boys of coach Michel Malbrook redeemed themselves and fought back through Giovanni Laval who contributed 10 points including two 3-pointers, and Robert Léon added another eight as they went on to win the second 10-minute spell 19-16.

It was no turning back for Baya as they kept their feet on the accelerator throughout the third quarter. Playing tough defence on SMB Razorbacks who kind of adopted an individual approach, Baya won the third quarter 17-13.
It was in the fourth and final quarter that Baya really made the difference by accumulating 24 points compared to only three for SMB Razorbacks.
Baya’s Giovanni Laval was the game’s top scorer with 25 points including five treys, whilst Jean-Paul Camille had the hot hands for SMB Razorbacks with 19.
Baya’s opponents for Saturday’s final were to be decided in last night’s second semifinal between PLS Hawks and Premium Cobras.
