NIGERIA : Buba Charges NBBF on Team Selection
A HIP of Kano female basketball team Coach Useni Buba has charged officials of Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) to ensure that the country's best players are always available for major championships.
Speaking on the recent performance of the Nigeria's female national team, Lady Tigers at the last World Championship in Brazil, Buba pointed that bad selection has always been the bane of Nigeria performance at international championships.
He enjoined the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation to crave for transparency in picking players for national assignments.
"I think the national team should not be a birth right of particular person(s). It should be a collection of the best hands in the country and not on favouritism or discrimination between the home and foreign-based players," he warned.
While projecting into the future of the game, the immigration inspector officer argued that the best way to get desired results would be to always use the best available to the nation.
"I believe we have an abundance of talents for the sport and the only way we can improve on our performance and make appreciable impact is to harness the best talents we can at each point in time," Buba said, while noting that the approach would bring results that are even better than the recent ones achieved by The Tigers in Japan.
He however, expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team at the on-going female league, declaring that the team is in transition.
"We have not done badly. With young players in our team, the future is bright and by next year other teams should better watch it," he warned.
