KENYA : Lions take on Co-op in a tricky league encounter

By Dann O’were

KCB Lions take on Co-operative Bank of Kenya in a Premier League basketball match at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium this afternoon.
Lions, the East and Central Africa club champions, are Kenya’s flag carries in next month’s Africa champions tournament. They are reeling from two back-to-back losses and must rise to the occasion today if they have to regain their confidence.
The two losses by KCB were against national champions Ulinzi and United States International University (USIU). However, team manager George Omondi is confident that they can bounce back today.
The four have qualified for play-offs. Co-operative Bank are second with 23 points while Lions are fourth with 22 points.
Ulinzi top the chart with a maximum of 28 points with USIU having 20 points.
Warriors, still unbeaten after 14 matches, tackle University of Nairobi Terrorists, while USIU entertain Kenyatta University Pirates in a grudge fixture tomorrow.
The women’s big date pits leaders Telkom against reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). Pundits believe that Telkom are the only team that can tame KPA.
Yana, yet to impress against the top guns, will wind up their matches against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology who have won only once.
In the lower division, Lakeside should top the chart after two matches against Java and Nairobi Pentecostal Church (NPC). NPC also play Don Bosco.

Fixtures today: NPC v Don Bosco, Java v Kisumu, Telkom v KPA, UoN v Ulinzi, Lions v Co-op.

Tomorrow: NPC v Kisumu, Don Bosco v Java, JKUAT v Yana, Dynamites v KPA and USIU v KU.
