KENYA : KPA nip Yana’s title ambitions

Champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) beat Yana Milele 77-51 in Game One of the Play Offs match at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
The porters who had it their way all through took a 37-14 advantage at the break and went a gear up after resumption. It was their last match before they fly out to Libreville Gabon, for the Africa club championships.
Yana had trouble adjusting but once they did that they took a uprise 16-12 margin in the third quarter on long range efforts by Caroline Achieng.
Gladys Wanyama, undoubtedly KPA’s best player on the court caused havoc as it was her basket that gave KPA a huge 57-37 cushion with under 3:00 minutes to play.
She was unstoppable down low hitting team high 20 points while Irene Murambi added 11. But KPA is wanting at the backcourt and Ethel Wakesho must step up.
Yana had 21 from Achieng that included five three
pointers and Ruth Wasike managed another 13. Game Two is scheduled for latter in the month after KPA returns Gabon.
Meanwhile, Runda claimed the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) title when they hit Kenya Polytechnic 78-69 in Game Two of the final series played at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
It was the students who led 45-37 half time the experienced Runda, who took Game One 79-45, charged at them to win the match and claim the crown without losing a game.
