By Nanama Keita

Mr Alieu Sarr, commonly known as Jassa, a senior basketball coach with the Gambia Basketball Federation(GBF), has recently left for the Federal Republic of Germany where he will undergo a five-week training course in basketball coaching. Mr Sarr will join several other coaches from around the globe, for the training programme that will be held at the sports Scientific Faculty of the University of Leipzig, in Germany.

Speaking to Observer Sports on Mr Sarr's trip, the Secretary-General of the Gambia Basketball Federation, Mr Jewru Krubally said the trip was solely funded by the the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through the Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs. He said: "The German government offered The Gambia a scholarship for coach to undergo a five-month training course in the European nation."

According to Mr Krubally, the training package will no doubt benefit the basketball federation to develop the game of basketball in the country. He added: "In any trade, there will hardly be any rapid development without the participation of the people with the 'technical know how' and such a training programme will eventually capacitate our coaches for the betterment of the game."
