GABON : National League ends
Gabonese basketball Federation (FEGABAB) organised senior national championships final (Men and women) from July 18 to 23 2006 in Port-Gentil, the economic capital of Gabon.
The preliminary steps were played with the six leagues of the country: League of “Estuaire” (Libreville) -League of “Ogooue Maritime” (Port-Gentil) – League of “Woleu Ntem” (Oyem) - League of “Moyen Ogooue” (Lambarene) – League of “Haut Ogooue” (Franceville) and League of “Ngounie” (Mouila).
Ten teams were invited for that step in the category of men: STADE MANDJI – OLDSTAR - CAS 1987 - ASOM coming from Port-Gentil, NDELLA - SOMO B coming from Libreville, MANGAGASPORT from Mouanda, LCM from Lambarene, ENGONG from Oyem and ILOUBI from Mouila.
Two groups of five teams played in two places: The gymnasium of Elf Company and the playground of “La Concorde” Complex.
The first two teams of each group were qualified for the semi-finals.
Here are the results: STADE MANDJI Vs SOMO B (57-42), NDELLA Vs CAS 1987 (66-48).
The final was played in the presence of great authorities of province of “Ogooue Maritime”, represented by the Mayor of Port-Gentil Mr NDAOT REMBOGO, a great authority of sport ministry and member of Gabonese basketball Federation (FEGABAB).
STADE MANDJI won the game against NDELLA the former champion; The score was 49 to 46; At the half time, STADE MANDJI was leading by 30 to 21; The game was average balanced; Six seconds before the end of the game, STADE MANDJI took advantage of a fool on OTOMO who attempted a three points at the end of the game; STADE MANDJI was declared champion of year 2006 in Gabon.
