IN only his fifth season in the MTN basketball league, Denis Akena has brought the aerial attack back to the Gulu-based Murchison Hawks team.
“A player with a high scoring energy,” that is how coach Nimrod Kaboha described him after Hawks’ first round head-to-head meeting with KIU.
At the time, Hawks had just upset KIU in the league.
Today, the Gulu team visit the student team in their third match of the second round at the YMCA courts.
Hawks who have only made the second division playoffs since joining the league three years ago, are hoping to repeat their first round feat and earn maximum points as the playoff qualification battle intensifies.
Akena, who won a call-up to this year’s All-Star and the university teams, finished the first round among the top scorers.
Together with Morris Lawoko, the two are hoping to lead their team to an elite position in the Yello Max Conference by October.
