Ten teams are expected to participate in the competition.

The gymnasium of the College de la Salle in Douala will be the venue of a one-week national youth championship in basketball. Organised by the Cameroon Basketball Federation (FECABASKET), the competition will bring together ten teams from all the provinces in the country. The competition falls in line with the policy of FECABASKET to train young talents who will replace aging ones in future. The tournament will run from July 31 to August 6, 2006. This year's youth championship promises to be tough as each province is determined to have its name written in the book of fame.

Prior to the event, preparations have been going on in the various provincial leagues.

Only the best teams were selected from each province following their activities and excellent performances in their different leagues. Organisers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a hitch free event. Preparatory meetings are going on in Yaounde and Douala. The various committees in charge of the organisation of the competition are working hard in other to avoid last minute rushes. In order to ensure the best results, a technical meeting has been slated for July 30 at 4:00pm at the College de la Salle campus in Douala.

Sources close to federation reveal that the tournament will be organised in Douala due to the absence of adequate sports infrastructure in Yaounde. "That is the reason why the Cup of Cameroon and other major international competitions were organised in Douala last year," the source said. It is equally the wish of FECABASKET officials to vulgarise the sport in the hinterland.
