THE third edition of the Falcons invitational tournament is slated for July 23-30 at Lugogo indoor Stadium. Falcons Athletics club president Mr. John Ssimbwa confirmed the date to Sunday Monitor and added that several regional teams have been invited.
The one-week tournament is expected to attract giant sides from Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi and Seychelles. Last year, Rwanda’s basketball club beat the then defending champions and hosts Falcons 100-83 in a thrilling final, to win the second edition title.
The Rwandese who were revenging the 2004 lost to the Ugandans are expected to come back with their traditional shooters Jean-Claude Bula, Badibanga Mputu and Karim Nkusi.
New Star (Burundi) and Steven Omony’s PLS Hawks (Seychelles) finished 3rd and 4th respectively. Uganda’s league giants Lady Bucks retained the women title with a 48-41 win over local league queens A-I challenge.
Meanwhile, Falcons have stepped up preparations ahead of the tournament. “It was absurd to have lost our own crown and therefore, we are looking at how we can take our game to another level,” Eric Malinga said yesterday.
The club has been boosted by the return of Tony Oluka whose working responsibilities in Masindi have seen him out of action for the entire first round of the MTN league.
