FALCONS basketball club, that won the men’s title at the 2004 Falcons International tournament, have a chance to reclaim it as the week-long invitational meet starts at Lugogo today.
The Falcons-organised tournament held to celebrate the team’s 12-year anniversary, has attracted 15 foreign teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Seychelles and DR Congo and eight local teams.
Six teams from Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda arrived in Kampala yesterday ahead of the event that will see Rwanda’s APR go all out to defend the men’s crown as Lady Bucks fend off competition to retain the women’s title.
“We are also expecting teams from Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania as well as Seychelles later today,” tournament organiser Henry Malinga said.
The tournament has been boosted by telecommunications giants MTN, the Daily Monitor, Rwenzori mineral water, Security Group and Asiatic sports.
Elsewhere, Falcons were forced to rally from a seven-point first quarter deficit before registering an 87-67 victory over Livingstone.
Sam Obol led Falcons with 18 points as they recorded a ninth victory in ten matches played and recovered pole position on the Yello Max table standings.
