IT was all cerebration and jubilation at the YMCA courts on Saturday as the Ugandan basketball stars lined up for the 2006 MTN All-Stars winners' cash.
Professional stars Norman Blick and Steven Omony featured for the Yello Max East side and played their hearts out in the side's 82-65 win of the 0.5m prize money at stake from MTN.
Together with Henry Malinga, Guy Rutaistire, Louis Habineza, Salim Ali, Pascal Alule, Simon Otine and Boniface Okello, the team proved too strong against the Yello Max West end that had Steven Okias, Brian Gumisiriza, Ronnie Kasewu and Chris Kyebambe.
The women's winners' cash went to the East side after a 22-20 triumph over the Western pool. The likes of Becky Akullo, Frances Nabulobi, Flavia Okecho, Florence Kalume and Miriam Hamala tussled it out against the likes of Ali Mavita, Carol Mugasha, Aisha Nalumansi and eventual MVP Viola Akuma.
The men's Yello Go West also won the money prize after beating the East side 75-65 in a game that exhibited a lot of skill, while the Division II Western side also walked away with Shs0.2m after beating their counterparts with a single basket in a 75-73 score.
All participants won themselves airtime from the sponsors MTN Uganda who dished out Shs2,100,000.
Meanwhile, the second round of the national MTN basketball league is set to start on July 8 with several matches on card.
