Zanzibar
Stone Town basketball team have said they want to halt Dar es Salaam’s victorious run in the national basketball championship, which starts at the National Indoor Stadium later this month.
The team are currently training seriously in Stone Town to prepare for the event’s challenges.
The team’s head coach, Abdullatif Juma told The Express that the training assured him of an easy task of beating Dar es Salaam Region, the current cup holders.
“We have good and ambitious players in our team. The presence of a professional player, Abdallah Ramdhani Dulla, adds a dimension to my team’s capability,” he said.
However, the coach said only Mwanza Region is giving him a slight worry since the region owns players who play much as a team, in contrast to Dar es Salaam, which rely much on individual skills.
Ever since Dulla became the Isles’ first professional basketball player, the sport has made rapid development in the Isles. They have managed to form the Stone Town Team, which is one of the best teams in the country at the moment.
