KENYA : Ulinzi made to fight in Nakuru

National men’s basketball champions Ulinzi Warriors were made to fight every inch of their way before squeezing a slim 69-65 win over hard-fighting Nakuru in a league match at Menengai High School, Nakuru, over the weekend.

Ulinzi who were the pre-match favourites were restricted to a 16-15 advantage in the first and second quarters. In Nairobi, regional club champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions fell 72-69 to Co-operative Bank of in an entertaining Premier League match at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

Other results were: Lomboritz 75 Kisumu Lakeside 71, Mennonites 67 Nairobi Pentecostal church 56, Don Bosco 67 Telkom 54, Telkom (women) 78 JKUAT 31.

Lions took things for granted to drop four consecutive points when Co-op Bank rocked them 72-69 in their first leg tie. Lions, who had lost another two points against champions Ulinzi Warriors on a 20-0 basis last weekend, had showed some effort from the word go on Saturday, tying the score at 13-13 in the first quarter, before they gave in.
