KENYA : KPA women for continental event
By Phionah Mwadilo
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team will represent Kenya in the Africa Feminine Club Championships from September 10 to 17 in Libreville, Gabon.
KPA qualified for the event after dethroning champions, Sprite Storms, 58-49 in the final match of the East and Central Africa Championships last month.
Coach Sammy Wanjohi on Thursday said the team started training immediately after the regional event held in Nairobi.
Wanjohi said the players are in great shape and hoping to do better.
He said the team would use the league matches and the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation Games, in August, to prepare for the event.
"We have organised several buildup matches against the boys’ teams — Mombasa Baptist and Shimo-la-Tewa High School — as build-upmatches," he said.
