ZIMBABWE: Cameo is again Harare champion

RODERICK TAKAWIRA'S profile continues to grow after the Cameo coach clinched his fourth successive Harare Basketball Association League title with three games to go.

All Cameo needed was a 103-50 thrashing of Mabvuku-based Faithwear Jammers to make sure that they successfully defended their title. Cameo are also the reigning national champions and will be hoping to maintain their status when the national tournament begins in a few weeks. "It is a good thing that the team has performed well this season but it does not mean that we are going to relax in the remaining games," said Takawira. Cameo have so far collected 52 points from 27 games with two defeats and even if they lose the last three games of the season they would still be ruling the roost. The champions are closely followed by Varsity Leopards who made a dramatic comeback to the top three as they have bagged 49 points with 22 wins and five defeats from the same number of games. Takawira, however, believes that the race for the women's title is still open and any of the top teams could claim it. "The women's league is still wide open and the league could be decided on the last week of the games," said Takawira.
