UGANDA: Ssebaana Launches Inter Cities Tourney
Kampala Mayor John Ssebaana Kizito on Monday launched the East and Central Africa Inter Cities Basketball Championships to be hosted here between May17-24 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
Ssebaana revealed that the City Council has contributed Shs36m of the Shs70m needed for the tournament.
"This is a big event on which we will be judged whether we can host other bigger tournaments. We therefore call on other well-wishers to come in and contribute so that we can successfully host it," he said.
KCC team manager and inter cities treasurer Joy Olinga said that 27 women and men's teams from different countries will take part.
They include Nairobi, Mombasa, Dar-es-Salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza, Arusha (TZ), Lubimbashi, Goma (DR Congo), Lusaka, Kitwe, Kigali, Luanda (Angola) Harare (Zimbabwe) and Seychelles. Jinja Municipality will be Uganda's second side in both men and women.
